About

Jackie Philip has found herself inexorably drawn into a passionate journey to make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia, and that of their carers. With experience of dementia care and support within the NHS, in private care homes and in her own local community in East Lothian and the Scottish Borders, Jackie is aware of the challenges which dementia can bring – and also the opportunities which can be built on to generate great times and good memories.

Quoted in 2013 in East Lothian Life, a local county magazine, Jackie said at the time;

“If, within any nursing environment I work, I could put up one strap line, one poster, one thought for the day, it would be ‘See the person, not the behaviour’. We need to respond to the person, to understand the underlying reasons behind what’s perceived as ‘inappropriate behaviour’… We need to support the individual through their journey…With concentration on a person’s abilities and less on the disabilities caused by their disease, much can be done to promote a happier and healthier existence”.

This continues to be Jackie’s priority.
